Elder care experts, resource navigators, professional speakers, and authors of THE CALLING A Journey on the Path of (Elderly) Parent Care, ISBN 1-888106-90-5 and DOGS HAVE SOULS TOO The Spirit of Miss Sarah (ISBN: 0-9674875-0-1).
About the subject:
It is estimated that 52.9 million dogs can be found in 4.2 million more American households than their feline counterparts. And, last year there were more than five million healthy companion animals euthanized in the United States.
Because many churches worldwide offer little help to owners of dead pets, there is a need for animal stories that deal with death and DOGS HAVE SOULS TOO is such a story. It takes the reader on a journey through the writers' reminiscences of the life they shared with their dog, all the way to death's door and the dream beyond.
What does this book do? It addresses the most difficult question of all: When is it time to put a pet to sleep? It shows how dreams of our pet can challenge our reality and helps heal our wounded spirits. The story does not end until it has given comfort and hope to those who grieve over the loss of their pet.
About the authors:
This team of elder care experts is considered resource navigators. They have over 20 years experience in caring for their elderly parents, three who died in their home. While holding their parent's hand, George and Emily were able to say good-bye to each parent as they took their last breath of air. The Watsons were also state-certified Ombudsman with the Salt Lake County Aging Services who were advocates for the elderly in residential and long-term nursing home facilities.
George and Emily are Associates of the Community/State Partnership To Improve End of Life Care in Utah, and Faith in Action, a not for profit organization that brings faith-communities together to care for the elderly. They also are members of the American Society on Aging. This dynamic duo gives presentations and conducts workshops around the country on elder care topics.
George and Emily's heightened interest in late life and end of life issues crossed over the barrier of person to person relationship to person to pet relationship as they experienced similar and not so similar patterns with their geriatric dog at the end of her life.
They are energetic. Provocative. Articulate. No strangers to media attention, they've been on radio, TV, and in print from coast to coast. (United Broadcasting Network/White Springs, Fox Four Morning Show/Kansas City, KVEN Radio/Ventura, America Talks Health/Houston, and they've been interviewed or featured in the Deseret News/Salt Lake City, Networks National Council on Aging/Washington DC, Times-Herald/Vallejo, Alaska Star/Chugiak-Eagle River.)
